Joseph R. Zaworski

Dr. Joseph Zaworski is a Mechanical Engineer with particular expertise in engineering design, evaluation and testing. Prior to joining the faculty at Oregon State University, Dr. Zaworski was the director of engineering for Endex Data Acquisition Systems where he managed all large projects. Since joining OSU in 1987, Dr. Zaworski has worked on numerous projects involving evaluation of new technologies for accessibility. For example, his work with wheelchairs has included component testing in the laboratory, field testing of wheelchairs for loading and unloading into vehicles, stability testing of wheelchairs using a tilt table, human factors tests for auto-docking securement systems, sled testing of wheelchairs for crash simulation, sled testing of restraint systems, and in-service demonstration tests of an independent securement system. In the area of aviation Dr. Zaworski has some unique qualifications in that he is a licensed pilot, has directly participated in the construction of aircraft, has provided air transportation to persons with disabilities, and has evaluated numerous airports for accessibility. As a result, Dr. Zaworski has a working knowledge of many of the needs for air travel accessibility along with a good knowledge of the external constraints imposed on the air travel industry, particularly regulations governing aircraft construction and modification.
